St. Petersburg Ska-Jazz Review

St. Petersburg Ska-Jazz Review

The legendary Russian ska-jazz band was founded in 2001 by Denis Kuptsov (aka DJ Messer) as the side project of members of the St. Petersburg bands Spitfire and Markscheider Kunst.

Over their 22-year career the band has performed in Russia, Europe, and the US, releasing six LPs and several singles. While the lineup and vocalists have changed several times, the band remains one of the longest-running and most professional Russian bands in the ska, rocksteady, and reggae genres.

The music of St. Petersburg Ska-Jazz Review is a unique blend of Jamaican music, American jazz, soul, funk, and R&B. The band also has an incredible amount of original material. They cover the work of such great musicians as Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Lee Morgan, António Carlos Jobim, Desmond Dekker, Otis Redding, Louis Jordan, the legendary Skatalites and many others.
