Perfect Toy Records caused quite a stir in and beyond the worldwide nu-jazz scene since its formation in spring 2002. Label founder Marcus Hacker, known as former head of lower Bavarian based Spinning Wheel Records, vinyl junkie and DJ, started his new Perfect Toy Records imprint as a reservoir for organic and authentic music.
Based on 60s' and 70s' jazz, funk and soul music, as consistently featured on appropriate old school compilations, recent publications more and more included current trends in 2004 club music. "The soul in music is decisive for releasing it or not", label founder Marcus Hacker mentions. "There is no stereotype or categorical thinking. Perfect Toy Records is not a compulsory nu jazz label, releases focus just as well on deep house, broken beats, hip hop or minimal techno, if the music fits with my flavour".
Thus, besides funk compilations like Creative Musicians, the shortly in 11/04 released Movements series or jazz bands like {Hipnosis} the label repertoire contains progressive sounds a la Zero Crossing or Talk. The project-oriented work, the collaboration with live projects like Mokadi or Liquid Loop and the implementation of computer technique for getting musicians into modern club sounds most of all amuses the label bosses.
